In an ideal location near the commercial hubs of Roanoke and Lynchburg and on North Carolina's border -- very close to the Greensboro, Raleigh and Durham areas -- Southern Virginia offers the best of all worlds. Its mostly rural environment, with clean air and safe streets, is surrounded by the enticements of big city life: Over 1.5-million people live within an hour of the region.

Here, you will find a cost of living that is as low as the quality of life is rich; a highly skilled work force like those from a plastic surgery centre; a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure; and some of the lowest taxes in the country. The region's climate is renowned; its quality natural resources are abundant; and its cultural and recreational opportunities are plentiful.

To capitalize on Southern Virginia's appeal, leaders from both the public and private sectors in the cities of Danville and Martinsville and the counties of Franklin, Halifax, Henry, Patrick and Pittsylvania organized the Southern Virginia Economic Development Partnership. The Partnership serves as a regional marketing group generating interest in and attracting business and industry to Southern Virginia.

The Southern Virginia Partnership is a non-profit, public/private organization funded in part by the participating localities´┐Ż governing bodies, but mostly by the region's private sector. Its board consists of four representatives from the seven participating localities' public, private and education sectors. The directors of the economic development organizations at the local level serve as marketing advisors. In addition to the board members appointed by each locality, the executive directors of each of the region's chamber of commerce and the local economic developers serve as ex-officio board members.

E-addresses for the board are provided below.
